Gw Baker is a Canadian interdisciplinary artist and writer, originally from Saskatchewan Canada, based in South Taiwan since 2005. He earned a B.F.A. with distinction from the University of Regina, furthering his art studies at Concordia University in Montreal before settling in Kaohsiung. Baker’s recent work is rooted in metaphoria—a personal philosophy and method of metaphorical exploration that spans his visual art and writings. His figurative paintings draw on classical and Baroque aesthetics layered with symbolic and esoteric depth, while his literary works, under the pseudonym Wendell Beckon, extend this inquiry into time, memory, and perception. Recurring themes include the tension between illusion and awakening, institutional critique, and the mystical undercurrents of human consciousness.
