George Wendell Baker is a Canadian painter and writer whose work has been based in South Taiwan since 2005. Originally from Saskatchewan, he earned a B.F.A. with distinction from the University of Regina before continuing his graduate art studies at Concordia University in Montreal. His current studio practice centers on metaphoria – a term he coined to capture the allegorical symbolism flowing through his visual and literary creations. While his oil paintings draw heavily on classical and Baroque aesthetics layered with symbolic, esoteric depth, his literary works are published under the pseudonym Wendell Beckon to extend this ongoing inquiry into time, memory, and perception. Recurring themes of illusion, awakening, and institutional critique drift through his work, inviting deep introspection through layered metaphors.
